Finally, after all these years, I was able to come back up to LO last month and visit with classmates at the Planning Meeting for our 60th Birthday Party.  What a hoot that was!  Looking forward to coming back in October and visiting with ALL you 60 year olds.  Thanks Veva, for rounding up the faithful (and not so faithful) for all these years.

Hey, way off whatever the subject might be, I have a question regarding our common "culture". Does anyone recall which issue of National Lampoon Magazine (between 1970-1985) contained the Ed Bluestone piece called "A Refreshing Fascist Manifesto"? I have all those issues but the search is undaunting with my aged eyes and too-easily diverted desire to laugh at anything (political) pretending to speak "at" me and "for" me that isn't spoken directly "by" me.Was that what I accidentally picked up from our history and speech classes? Yow!best, chrisThanks,Chris

I will not be up for the October 2011 60th-birthday get-together (I'll be 60.4 by then), however, I do want very much to see LOHS and other .6-centarian friends I met during my pre-60 years in the Portland-Metropolitan area. I do want to see them and family if I come to town as costs are rising and hitting their "free-time" schedules and "good weather" events is key. At the last reunion, the night was over before I ever got to take in the enriching tales and assessments of so many available adventurers. Except for breakfast on Saturday and an at-ease gathering at Oaks Park, I missed a vast richness. I know that the October 2011 gig will be awesome. The same reunion folks are working hard on it, as always, and it also will be great I am certain. In conjunction, let me know if you would like to get together in Jul-Aug 2011. [I will keep the Oct team updated.]. Send me a direct email and I will work with anyone regarding an informal daytime park potluck planning (with rabid dancing, salacious singing, adjacent evening events, your ideas, etc.. my best wishes,Chris

I want to thank everyone for the wonderful Daniel Janzer pictures. It hits me now how interconnected we are lucky to be. I truly appreciate, and in fact am in love with, that transcendence of my own separateness. I am truly indebted to the humanity you all give me when the power- and profit-motivated media and "truthfulness" of this hierarchical parasite, 'political-economy', which as the negation of all humanity and the objectification of all humanity that is subjective as its core. I see the best of us all in Daniel's eyes and Kay's smiles, and thank you all for sharing those photographed best-of-all human moments with me. I could have no greater connectiveness to the universe. Thank you all! Best wishes, Chris Gray

None of you will remember me, but if I had not moved away after 7th grade, I would have graduated in '69.  I happened to come across this website, and what a great one it is.  I see many faces I actually remember from 1964 (when I moved to Texas).  I lived in Lake Oswego from 1958-1964 (2nd thru 7 grades).  Playing little league baseball with Dick Adolphson, Billy Volm, Tom Evans, Steve Walker, Billy Colton, etc.  A terrific place to grow up.

Farewell to a wonderful Daniel Janzer, who died March 25, 2010. I played in the fields and classes of Riverdale Grade School for four years, watched him wisely eat only unbitter grasshoppers, rode the ski bus and slopes with him at Mt. Hood, camped with him in the Boy Scouts, went to Mr. Billings' dancing school and afterwards to The Chuck Wagon with him. He always smiled and felt how you felt. I will remember you fondly, old friend!christopher gray

And a great time was had by all!
Well, the Friday night function was a blast! Kudos and thank- you’s to everyone involved. A great turn out, and really wonderful to see everyone after so long. We were packed in there weren’t we? I think we had to get along or die in the undertaking. I don’t know about you-but I got a lot of people looking at my name tag-looking at me, and saying “I don’t remember you at all”. Which means, I achieved my high school goal-which was, apparently, to be non-descript. Kind of hard to do at six feet tall-but somehow I managed. I want to start an Arizona contingency re-union. I know there are a few of us down here. Let me know if you are interested, and I’ll get a group together. In the meantime-stay in touch. I can be reached at Also, if you are thinking of moving someplace where you can just lay back and bask in the sun-don’t forget that I live and work here-actually, in a little industry I like to call “Real Estate”. I love that blast of sunlight we get almost every day here. OK, so it gets a little hot in the summer-but that just gives us an excuse to go party in San Diego for a while (They call us “Zonies”-funny) Until the next one! –Mary-Lynn (Kotz) Allen

Friday was wonderful (albeit somewhat ricochet-like) seeing you all at our very well-planned and eventful reunion! Hats (on at the booth and) off to all for such wonderful times! Always a logistical nightmare to get one memory to work these daze, getting so many of them to all show up in the same state, the same city, and in the same space-time proximity -- and at not just one but numerous events -- is an incredible feat by us all. We are quite extraordinary after all. Alas, there were so many to meet, re-meet, "hello", and hug (better than a shrug!)-- with far too little time. Such a treasure trove of people! While we can still remember the use of maps and calendars, the idea of more frequent get-togethers, as has been floated, is very appealing. I know that for such an affair as that I shall bring sorbet, trick candles, more free[d] time, more attentive ears, more focused eye contact, my "secret weapon" golf clubs, and of course, the shareable exuberance that seeing you all creates. My very best to you all. I can be reached via and hope to hear about you and your adventures before and/or at a group ~60th birthday party in 2011. Be healthy and stay in touch.

Yes, yes, I concur with those who proclaim the reunion a great success. I had a lot of fun at the Friday night bash.

To paraphrase Garrison Keillor, "the women were all pretty, the men were all handsome, and, well, thank God the children weren't there.

I skipped the Saturday night bash. See, I only have one bash per weekend left in me.

The walk around the new LOHS was fantastic. Remember that school emblem we were never supposed to walk on? It has been completely cleaned and polished, and now hangs at the entrance to the main building.

I attended four high schools in four years. For that I will forever blame my father and his darned upwardly mobile career: Kailua High School, Kailua, HA (where I was a corporate haole boy and spent a lot of time hiding); Maryknoll Cadet Academy, Honolulu (again, blame the father*); Napa High School ( a year, 1967-68, that I surprisingly remember most of); and finally, LOHS.

I'm sure all the '69 grads from all those schools are having great 40ths this year, but I'll stack the school I ended up at up against any of them, any time, anyhow, any place. Go Lakers!

*Dad is still with us so I can say these things.

Well~ it is "Hot August Nights" again in Reno and I can't believe it has been a year since I first signed the guest book. It has been much fun being on the reunion committee even though it has been from afar!!! I have been able to renew old friendships and make new ones through e mail and facebook and I am really looking forward to the reunion. Thanks to Veva, Lauri and the other committee members who have worked so hard this last year. I know that this year's party will probably be the best so far!!! I remember the softball game we had at Lake Grove Grade School for the 10th reunion. Fun!! Don't know if we can still run around the bases but I think the picnic at Oaks Park will be fun too. Plus the Reunion treas. is buying the beer!!!
So everyone needs to RSVP and make this the best reunion of all!!!
See you soon,

Yes, Dick and I are still married after 37 years and living in 6 different states across the U.S. ( some several times ). We have 2 married children, Kevin and Lisa and two beautiful grandchildren.
After 33 years Dick has just retired from GMAC and we are finally back home in Florida. He has started a new career with Chem-Aqua and is loving the change of pace.
I am so happy to be close again to our grandbabies and being able to spend more time on our boat in Jacksonville.
We now call Port Orange, Florida home  ( Daytona Beach area )

It was a dark and stormy night in late September 2008 when I received the unexpected email from
The LOHS Class of 1969 was having a forty year reunion, and I was invited! There was a planning committee meeting upcoming, and amazingly, a local address was provided, which I immediately map-quested and found was very near my dentist's office.

Armed with my yearbook, which I thought I might need to prove I was actually a member of the class, I jumped on I-5 and headed for the home of Lauri Hein. I did not remember Ms. Hein, and so reckoned that she had probably been a "clique." Since I had been a "hippie," our paths would not have crossed in any meaningful way.

Why did I not RSVP the meeting via I was afraid that if I did all the other high schools I'd attended (Hayward, Kailua, Maryknoll Academy, Napa) would contact me about other 40 year reunions, and I did not want that. Turns out, all those schools did contact me later with reunion plans, all of which I plan to ignore.

I found Lauri's house, a nice house, rang the bell a few times, could hear laughter from inside, but no one answered. I found the door was unlocked, and just walked right in. It's a good thing I had that yearbook--I could have been anybody.

Long story short, it was fantastic to see those former classmates from all those years before. Many of them had drinks in hand, which was exactly the way I remembered them from the summer 1969.

The coordinators of this event are doing a great job, and I'm looking forward to the big weekend.

You just blink your eyes and find it's 40 years later.  With the recent inauguration I feel like I've been transported back to a time filled with hope and possibilities.  How rejuvenating!

I did the reverse career route - less ususal in these times.  I went back to grad school at Lewis and Clark to get my M.A.T. in 1992 and started teaching in Portland in '93.  I taught in N.E. and S.E. Portland schools with at-risk populations and high percentages of English Language Learners.  Went back to L & C for my ESOL endorsement and decided it was time to go into administration.  Soooo, continued at L&C for Admin credentials. This is my third year as principal at Stephenson Elementary in SW Portland and I'm loving it.  No plans to retire anytime in the forseeable future.

Hello from BattleGround, WA
Married 28 years, no children, but have three dogs, one cat, one parrot and 2 horses. Spend alot of time on the trails riding my horses, enjoying the peace and quite of the forest. Gave up the corporate rat race and commuting into Portland, and  now work from home, even gave up the computer and email for a couple of years, and it was total bliss.  Really miss the simpler times. It will be fun seeing all those who attend.

Married following 6 yrs in the Navy: home schooled two great sons through high school (one married). Husband of 30 yrs, a Navy Commander, retired with 26 years behind him (us!). We are now living in our dream home in Colorado overlooking Canon City, with an expansive view of the Wet Mountains to the west, and even a bit of Pikes Peak to the north.
Probably won't make the reunion - we're already scheduled to return to OR for my last Grandmother's 100th birthday bash (Lord willing!). HAVE FUN anyway!

Greetings All,

I am happy and well.  I enjoy a challenging job advocating for elders and vulnerable adults living in long term care facilities. I live in the great neighborhood of Ballard, which is here in Seattle.
Most importantly, both of my girls are out in the world fulfilling their dreams.

It will be interesting to find out how much we all have in common after all of these years. Until August - Mary

I remember we were the first senior class to have successfully completed the teacher kidnapping.  We camped out all night , went for breakfast,  and then paraded the teachers through the school. Teachers were sent home to clean up while we lead there first class.  Lots of laughs, guitars and songs by the campfire.  Well organized and teachers were good sports.  I recall one got awat and was last seen running down McVey Ave.

Well this is fun.  I left the soggy northwest after I finished medical school and never turned back.  Living in the desert is my idea of a good time.  Every day is a good day for a hike in Arizona. Well, this is really a big surprise. Thanks Laurie for your nice idea. I can't believe so many years have gone bye. I hope to make it to the reunion. I've been several times to the States, but never went back to Oregon, although my American Mom came to visit me to Argentina.
